GLP-1 Use Is Broadening. That Does Not Tell a Clinic Who Can Pay.

A Gallup survey points to GLP-1 use reaching farther into the U.S. population. In its revised September report, Gallup estimated that 11 percent of adults currently took a GLP-1 medication for weight-loss purposes, compared with 3 percent in 2024. The 2026 survey was conducted from May 28 to June 5. Gallup revised its estimates on September 8 after updating the weighting criteria, so the revised figures, rather than an earlier snapshot, are the ones cited here.

National use is not the same as local cash-pay demand. A practice cannot infer from a national survey how many prospective patients in its neighborhood will seek a visit, qualify for a particular treatment, obtain coverage or continue paying out of pocket. Nor does the survey identify a preferred procurement channel for independent clinics.

What it does show is that GLP-1s have become a more common part of the patient conversation. For operators, the disciplined response is to separate population interest from the economics and operational capacity of their own practice. Demand should be measured at the front desk and in follow-up, not simply imported from a national headline.
